The European System of Central Banks has developed new experimental statistics, intended to provide distributional information on household wealth. Distributional Wealth Accounts (DWA) take financial accounts data, and non-financial assets data from national accounts, and allocate them incorporating detailed information from the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS). DWA provide data, broken down by household groups, on net wealth, total assets and liabilities and their components. Households are broken down into the top five deciles of net wealth and the bottom 50%, as well as by employment and housing status. These statistics are published quarterly, for the euro area as a whole and also for Spain and the other member countries, with a five-month lag.
