Banco de España uses digital certificates to identify users of certain electronic services that require a high level of security. It may also require an electronic signature to exchange certain data.
Users of some of the online services provided by Banco de España may, therefore, need to possess an electronic certificate to be identified and/or sign.
Certificates accepted
Unless otherwise indicated in the "Accession Rules" relating to the service to which access is required, the Bank accepts certificates issued by certain certificate service providers who are recognised by Banco de España.
However, in addition, the Bank can issue and manage its own certificates. It does this using its public key infrastructure (known as PKIBDE). Certificates issued by PKIBDE allow access to the Banco de España internet services that require them.
