Functions
The Governor of the Banco de España has the following functions:
- Directing the Bank; chairing the Governing Council and the Executive Commission; and acting as the Bank’s legal representative vis-à-vis the institutions and international organisations in which the Bank participates.
Following publication in the Official State Gazette of 11 June 2024
of the termination of office of the last Governor upon expiry of his mandate, the position of Governor is now vacant.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 19 of the Law of Autonomy of the Banco de España, the Deputy Governor shall exercise the Governor's powers to manage and represent the Bank until a newly appointed Governor takes office.
