Basic payment accounts: fees

A basic payment account is a type of account that promotes financial inclusion in the European Union by providing core banking services to consumers.

Banks are required to offer such accounts (without it being conditional on arranging other services), as well as promote them and provide information about their features.

Maximum fees for transfers and direct debits

Credit institutions report to the Banco de España the average fees and expenses they have charged basic payment account customers in respect of transfer and direct debit services provided in the preceding 12 months.

The Banco de España publishes this information every quarter, to make known the maximum fees that customers could be charged if they go over the limit of 120 transactions.
