The ESCB is managed by the governing bodies of the European Central Bank (ECB), namely, the Governing Council and the Executive Board. The General Council is the ECB's third governing body. The Supervisory Board is an internal ECB body, responsible for planning and performing the duties entrusted to the ECB in connection with the prudential supervision of credit institutions.
The nature and functioning of these ECB bodies are established under the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), the Statute of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the respective internal regulations (of the ECB, Executive Board, General Council and Supervisory Board).
