BExplore Regional Central Balance Sheet Data Office: A New Statistical Tool with Business Information by Autonomous Communities and Provinces

Non-financial corporations statistics

The dissemination of the interactive tool “BExplore Regional Central Balance Sheet Data OfficeOpens in new window” begins, incorporating the regional dimension into the statistics that have been published on Spanish non-financial corporations. This has been made possible with the indispensable collaboration of the Spanish Association of Property and Mercantile Registrars (CORPME).

The tool allows users to consult the aggregated historical series evolution by autonomous communities and provinces (according to the company’s headquarters) of a selected set of economic-financial variables, with details by sectors of activity and sizes. Currently, the information is available from 2008 to 2022.

The tool is divided into four information blocks that allow queries by autonomous communities and provinces on coverage and business structure, income statement information, employment and remuneration, financing cost, asset profitability, and average collection and payment periods.

In summary, this tool, aimed at non-financial companies and the general public, offers various options for users who wish to integrate the regional dimension into their analyses or queries, with details of weighted average and median of the statistical distribution, through an interactive and customisable report according to their specific needs.

It is recommended to read the Occasional Paper “The Banco de España's Central Balance Sheet Data Office database: a regional perspectiveOpens in new window” which details the use of this new tool. This paper serves as an introduction to this new statistical product and highlights the importance and relevance of considering the regional dimension when analysing business behaviour.

Researchers who wish to delve deeper into regional analysis can also request access to the microdata of the Balance Sheet Centre available at the Bank of Spain’s data laboratory (BELabOpens in new window).
