Summary indicators
The summary structural indicators for the Spanish and European Union economy table has been modified to reflect the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union. Thus:
— The aggregates whereby the different indicators for the European Union are obtained are modified. In most cases, the United Kingdom has been included in the aggregate until its effective withdrawal in 2019 and, from 2020, the different indicators are obtained without the United Kingdom. However, for some variables it was necessary to reconstruct the information by excluding the United Kingdom from the beginning of the series because the original source from which the data are obtained (Eurostat) no longer provides values for the United Kingdom. The new aggregates and specific definitions in every indicator are detailed in the footnotes to the table.
— In addition, the source for patents has instead been obtained from the European Patent Office (EPO).
— Lastly, no information is provided on the rate of change differentials between Spain and the United Kingdom for the period 2019-2020, as the latter country leaving the European Union has generated a significant break in the different indicators and meant that outliers were obtained for this period.
