Definition
Institutional sector that includes all financial institutions and quasi-corporations, except those classified in the "central bank" and "money market funds" subsectors, that are primarily engaged in financial intermediation and whose activities consist of receiving deposits and/or close substitutes from institutional units, and therefore not only from monetary financial institutions, and granting loans and/or investing in securities on their own account.
