Sectorisation of the economy

Definition

Classification of the institutional units that make up an economy into different sectors.

The sectorisation used in the statistics of the Banco de España corresponds to that established in the European System of Accounts 2010, which defines the following institutional sectors at the first two levels:

  • S.1 National economy
  • S.11 No
  • financial corporations
  • S.12 Financial institutions
  • S.13 General government
  • S.14 Households
  • S.15 No
  • profit institutions serving households (NPISH)
  • S.2 Rest of the world

In the context of statistics, other classifications of economic entities are sometimes used according to their statistical or analytical interest. In these cases, they are referred to as sectorisation schemes.

Sectorisation schemes used in the statistics of the Banco de España:

- Institutional groupings used in supervisory statements.

- Institutional groupings used in the monetary analysis tables.

- Institutional groupings used in National Accounts and Financial Accounts
