2ND BANCO DE ESPAÑA AND BANCO DE PORTUGAL CONFERENCE ON LABOUR MARKETS

The conference was jointly organized by the Banco de España and Banco de Portugal, and took place in Madrid o 21st and 22nd of May, 2024.
The main goal of the conference was to bring together distinguished academics who discussed and debated recent research on labor markets, institutions, productivity, wages and inflation.
Keynote speakers were Elena Pastorino (Stanford University) and Lucas Karabarbounis (University of Minnesota).

The 5th conference on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Economics, Finance, and Central Banking organized by the Bank of Canada, Bank of England, Banco de España, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and European Central Bank will be hosted by the Banco de España in Madrid. This is the fifth in a series of conferences that primarily focuses on issues encountered by under-represented groups in economics, finance, and central banking.
On 7 March 2024, an academic conference will feature papers and discussions on the heterogeneous impacts on inflation and monetary policy, financial inclusion, and diversity in the Economics profession and central banking. The Banco de España Governor will open the agenda, followed by a keynote speech by Ghazala Azmat and four academic sessions moderated by representatives of all the organizing institutions. The Banco de España Deputy Governor will pass on the organization of the next edition to the General Director of Statistics, Economics and International of the Banque de France in the closing session of the day.
On 8 March 2024, a Human Resources Summit with two roundtables and one masterclass will reflect on how to mitigate barriers in talent acquisition and promotion, the institutional aspects that affect diversity and how IA could foster or not more inclusive practices and policies. Banco de España´s Deputy Governor will open the agenda, and the General Director of Services will close the event.

On February 14, 2024, the VIII Mediterranean Central Banks Conference will take place in Split under the title “Stay the Course in Turbulent Times: Old and New Challenges for Central Banks” This conference is organized by the Banco de España, Hrvatska narodna banka (Croatian National Bank), the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
The conference will bring together the governors of the central banks of Croatia, Spain, Slovenia, Malta, and Portugal, as well as the Vice President of the European Central Bank. Other participants include the Executive President of IEMed, the Secretary General of the UfM, the Director of Policy Studies at the OECD, and other economic policy authorities and experts from academia and the financial sector.
This edition will have a central banks’ panel discussing the credibility of central banks in times of high inflation, as well as two regional expert panels addressing topics related to women’s participation in the economic field and managing financial risks associated with climate change.

This conference on External Statistics brings together users and compilers of external statistics. It is organised jointly by the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics (IFC) of the Bank for International Settlements, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Banco de España (BdE). The event aims to foster regular discussions and sharing of experiences within the central banking community as well as with other interested stakeholders and users to identify the main analytical needs, prioritise data collections and address upcoming challenges in external statistics. To this end, the agenda include keynote speeches from influential policymakers and academics, round table discussions and thematic sessions, with inputs both from analysts and compilers.
Following its first edition held in 2020 (Lisbon, Portugal), this conference will focus on the recent factors that have been reshaping the landscape for external statistics: in particular, the consequences of the pandemic and its aftermath, digitalisation, geo-political tensions and growing attention to environmental issues. The event will also be an opportunity to shed light on important statistical developments affecting the measurement of the external sector, namely improvements in compilation methods, the use of multiple information sources, the growing importance of micro data and the ongoing review of international statistical standards, particularly the update of the Balance of Payments Manual (BPM7).
