Consolidated balance sheet of Monetary Financial Institutions

Definition

A balance sheet obtained by excluding positions between Monetary Financial Institutions (MFIs) that appear in the aggregated balance sheet of the sector (such as loans and deposits between MFIs).

Further information

It provides statistical information on the assets and liabilities of the MFI sector vis-à-vis residents in the economy who do not belong to this sector (i.e., General Government and other resident sectors) and vis-à-vis non-residents. The consolidated balance sheet is the main source of statistical information for the calculation of monetary aggregates and is the basis for the periodic analysis of the counterparts of M3.
