External assets of monetary financial institutions (MFI) resident in the euro area vis-à-vis non-residents in the area, minus their liabilities to residents outside the area.

The external assets of MFIs resident in the euro area include, among others, gold, currency and banknotes in currencies other than the euro, securities issued by non-residents in the euro area, and loans granted to non-residents in the area.
Liabilities, on the other hand, will include deposits, temporary transfers, money market fund shares, and debt securities issued by MFIs that are non-residents in the euro area.
