Definition
Listed shares are equity securities that are traded on a market. This can be an official stock exchange or any other form of secondary market. Shares admitted to listing are also known as listed shares. The existence of quoted prices for shares traded on a market means that current market prices can be known immediately.

Listed shares fall under category 5.1.1 of the financial instruments classification, according to the European System of Accounts 2010, and are part of category 5, ‘Equity and investment fund shares’.
