Definition
The asset management company Sareb is an entity created in November 2012, in the context of the financial crisis, as part of the aid program for financial institutions for the restructuring and recapitalization of the Spanish banking sector.

The entity was established with a planned lifespan of 15 years and is classified in the Public Administration sector in National Accounts and related statistics.
Initially, it was classified as a private financial institution. Its reclassification as part of the Public Administration sector was carried out in March 2021, following a recommendation from Eurostat.
