National Classification of Economic Activities

Definition

A classification system aims to organize and catalog economic activities according to their nature and type.

The objective of this classification is to establish a hierarchical set of economic activities that can be used to:

  • facilitate the implementation of national statistics that can be differentiated according to the established activities
  • classify statistical units and entities according to the economic activity performed

The current classification is the CNAE-2009, resulting from the international revision process called ‘Operation 2007.’ It was developed in accordance with the conditions established in the Regulation approving NACE Rev.2, and it replaced CNAE-93 Rev.1.
