The Consumer Price Index has undergone a twofold modification affecting both its methodological base and its classification structure:
- On the one hand, the base year has changes from 2021 to 2025.
- On the other hand, the COICOP classification of goods and services is adopted, replacing the previous ECOICOP classification.
As a consequence of these changes, the CPI tables (tables 25.1
and 25.2
), as well as the Summary of General Economic Indicators for Spain (table 1.1
).
One of the main changes resulting from this reclassification is the elimination of the expenditure group “Other goods and services” (specific to ECOICOP). In its place, two new expenditure groups defined under COICOP 2018 are incorporated:
- Insurance and financial services, and
- Personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous services.
