Securities settlement systems

Definition

Securities clearing and settlement systems settle transactions in euros in cash accounts opened in the books of central banks.

In Spain, the securities clearing and settlement systems are integrated into the company 'Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, Sociedad Holding de Mercados y Sistemas Financieros, S.A.' (BME).

  • Society for the Management of Registration Systems
  • Compensation and Settlement of Securities, S.A. Unipersonal —whose trade name is Iberclear— is the Spanish central securities depository (CSD) for securities admitted to trading on the Spanish Stock Exchanges, securities traded on AIAF Fixed Income Market (AIAF), and securities traded on Latibex, the Latin American securities market in euros.
  • BME Clearing: the central counterparty (CCP) of the BME Group for Stock Exchange operations, financial derivatives, repos on Public Debt, energy derivatives, and interest rate derivatives.
