Abstract
This chronicle introduces readers to the history of the Banco de España from within, drawing on the documents produced in the exercise of its functions. It is aimed at people interested in gaining an inside look at the institution, as well as researchers and external users who consult its document collections.
Drawing mainly on the collections held in the Banco de España’s Archive, the chronicle sets out the institution’s functional structure since its very beginning and helps pinpoint the documents generated as a result of its myriad activities over the centuries. It also provides an insight into the origin of these documents, why and when they were produced and why they have been conserved.
