Abstract
In Spain, the data on exports and imports of goods are recorded both in the International Trade in Goods Statistics published by the Secretariat of State for Trade and the Tax Agency (AEAT), and in the goods heading of the Balance of Payments (BoP) published by the Banco de España. Although both statistics are based on information declared to the Spanish Customs and Excise Department (AEAT), there are methodological differences between them. This note explains the nature of these differences, as well as the complementary information and adjustments applied to compile the BoP data. Finally, it presents the method used to estimate a breakdown by product of the goods data in the BoP, based on the Standard International Trade Classification from United Nations (SITC Rev4).
