Abstract
This statistical note analyses the evolution of Spain’s foreign direct investment (FDI) over the last decade (2016-25), based on data compiled within the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position framework. Following an asset-liability presentation, it examines the evolution of FDI positions, analysing both their relative weight in comparison with the main European Union economies and their distribution across institutional sectors. It also reviews FDI financial transactions since 2016. The analysis is complemented by a box on the geographical breakdown of investment, which, in the case of inward FDI in Spain, distinguishes between the immediate investing economy and the ultimate investing economy.
