Abstract

This paper presents the results of the evaluation of five social inclusion pilot projects carried out within the framework of the Inclusion Policy Lab promoted by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. These projects are evaluated using randomised controlled trial methodology, according to the highest standards of scientific rigour. Although they all share the common goal of improving the social inclusion of participants, the evaluations cover different dimensions, ranging from reducing child poverty and better social integration of families with children at risk of exclusion, to facilitating access to social goods and services, or promoting the acquisition of skills for digital integration and transition to employment. Therefore, the treatment to which the participants were assigned differs across the projects, varying from a panel of personalised interventions oriented towards families with minors to a personalised training itinerary together with the availability of a common space where participants have digital resources and participate in group workshops. In addition, one of the projects studies non-take-up in the Minimum Income Scheme (ingreso mínimo vital, in Spanish), on the basis of face-to-face and online information about this public transfer. Given the variety of interventions, it is difficult to draw common conclusions, but the results obtained include, in particular, that the personalised itinerary reinforced with participation in group activities has a positive and significant impact on the improvement of the economic situation of the participants and their employability. Positive effects are also found on participants’ ability to access rights and services, their digital skills and their participation in community groups, aspects that reinforce their social integration.
