9th Annual Conference of Mediterranean Central Banks - Harnessing innovation and integration for sustainable and inclusive development in the Mediterranean region
On October 1, 2025, the 9th Conference of Mediterranean Central Banks was held in Cairo under the title “Harnessing innovation and integration for sustainable and inclusive development in the Mediterranean region.” The event was organized by the Central Bank of Egypt, the Banco de España, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The conference was attended by the governors of the central banks of Egypt, Slovenia, Spain, Libya, Malta, and Tunisia, as well as other representatives from the central banks of Croatia, France, Lebanon, Morocco, and Turkey. Also present were the Executive President of IEMed, the Deputy Secretary General of the UfM, the Director of Studies at the OECD, other economic policy authorities, and experts from academia and the financial sector.
This edition featured two central bank panels. One focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on the evolution of the financial sector, and the other on the role of central banks in advancing the green transition. Additionally, two other panels of regional economic experts addressed various initiatives aimed at ensuring financial services reach all segments of society, and the recent developments in financial integration among the countries of the Union for the Mediterranean.
