Extension of the information provided on non-MMF investment funds

The Banco de España broadens the information published on non-MMF investment funds, based on Spain's contribution to the statistics of the European System of Central Banks. This expansion includes a substantial revision of existing tables and the release of new detailed tables.

Tables affected by the changes

• The table titled «Investment fund shares issued: breakdown by investment policy», is now titled «Overview of investment funds other than money market funds. Outstanding amounts» (table 9.15t). This table previously only included the issued shares according to fund type and now offers more comprehensive information:
  • Information on total assets, broken down by items.
  • Details of the most relevant financial assets, broken down by issuer residency.
  • More extensive information on liabilities, maintaining the breakdown of shares according to fund type.

Aditionally, venture capital funds, which were previously included under the «Equity» fund type, are now classified under «Other funds».

• The table titled «Financial transactions» has been renamed to «Overview of investment funds other than money market funds. Financial transactions» (table 9.16t). The information provided by this table consisted of asset and liability financial transactions of the investment funds. With this modification, the table replicates the new structure of the one related to outstanding amounts (table 9.15), which represents a substantial expansion of its content. Specifically, it includes:
  • Information on total asset financial transactions, broken down by items.
  • Details of financial transactions with the most relevant financial assets, broken down by issuer residency.
  • More extensive information on liability financial transactions, now including the breakdown of shares according to fund type.

In addition to this, once refined, the amounts corresponding to venture capital funds have been incorporated into this information block.

• Within the table «Financial balance sheet of non-bank financial corporations. Breakdown by subsector and type of entity. Total assets» (table 9.1), data on venture capital funds will now be published as an «of which» category within the «Other funds» fund. Previously, this information was included within the «Equity» fund type.

New tables by fund type

Detailed tables by fund type that replicate the new structure of the previous tables are created. Two blocks are defined according to the type of information they display:

•  Outstanding amounts tables:
  • Equity funds (table 9.15a)
  • Bond funds (table 9.15b)
  • Mixed funds (table 9.15c)
  • Real state funds (table 9.15d)
  • Hedge funds (table 9.15e)
  • Other funds (table 9.15f)
•  Financial transactions tables:
  • Equity funds (table 9.16a)
  • Bond funds (table 9.16b)
  • Mixed funds (table 9.16c)
  • Real state funds (table 9.16d) 
  • Hedge funds (table 9.16e)
  • Other funds (table 9.16f) 

The need to preserve data confidentiality causes a disruption in the data of other funds (tables 9.15f and 9.16f) in the first quarter of 2025. From that date onwards, information corresponding to real estate investment funds is included in this category. The data for these funds, up to the last quarter of 2024, can be found in tables 9.15d and 9.16d.
