Modification of Information on labour disputes and workforce reductions

General Economic Statistics

To maintain and improve the information provided in the table «Labour disputes and workforce reductions» (table 24.24Opens in new window), within the  Employment and Wage Statistics of the "General Economic Statistics" theme, various updates and corrections have been made. Specifically:

In the section on labour disputes:

  • Data on strikes and the number of participants have been verified to include general strikes from 2012 onwards, incorporating data from the Strike Affiliates Statistics (EAH) of the Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social into the Developed Conflicts Statistics (ECD) of the Ministerio de Trabajo y Economía Social, which did not provide this information.
  • Additionally, regarding strike data, the source of participants and non-working days has been the EAH instead of the ECD since 2018 for several reasons:
    • - The EAH uses administrative data as its source, while the ECD uses statistical questionnaires.
    • - The ECD studies company strikes and sector strikes of non-national scope, while the EAH also includes national sector strikes and general strikes.
    • - In terms of timeliness, EAH data is available with a 30-day delay, while ECD data is available after 90 days.

In the section on workers affected by workforce reductions:

  • Data provided by the Ministerio de Trabajo y Economía Social, has been reviewed to eliminate discrepancies.
  • The year 2020, has been corrected, for which, until new information from the Ministerio de Trabajo y Economía Social is available, only information for January and February is available due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The coding, description, and sources of the statistical series have been updated to maintain consistency between the different formats for downloading and consulting the published series.
