Financial stability and macroprudential policy

The Law 13/1994 on the Autonomy of the Banco de España assigns to the central bank, within its mandate, the role of promoting the proper functioning and stability of the financial system.

Besides, the Law 10/2014 on the regulation, supervision and solvency of credit institutions designates the Banco de España as the sectoral authority in charge of macroprudential policy to address systemic risks that pose a threat to the stability of the banking system.

This section provides an overview of the tasks and activities of the Banco de España in this field. The issues of supervision and regulation are addressed separately in the Supervision section.
