Banco de España on October 3th hosted at its Barcelona premises a commemorative session of Joan Sardà and the 60th Anniversary of the Stabilization Plan of 1959.
The Stabilization Plan of 1959 contribution was analyzed during the session. It changed the Spanish economy and society, taking it from autarchy and poverty to democracy and modernity within the advanced Europe.
One of the principal architects of the Stabilization Plan was Joan Sardà i Dexeus, from his post as director of the Economic Research Service at Banco de España.
Along with Gabriel Ferras, director of the European Division of the International Monetary Fund, they designed a complete program of stabilization and a set of reforms to liberalize the Spanish economy.
