Update of the “Total balance sheet for financial corporations”, “Insurance corporations” and “Pension funds” statistics

The Banco de España has expanded its catalogue of statistics by reintroducing two previously discontinued products within the area of financial corporations statistics.
Specifically, the Bank is reintroducing the publication of insurance corporation and pension fund statistics. This paves the way for renewed dissemination of the statistics on the total balance sheet and sector breakdown for financial corporations, closing the existing information gaps in this area.

Content and coverage

• Statistics on insurance corporations and pension funds: quarterly release of balance sheet data (assets and liabilities), together with specific breakdown tables of the most significant asset items.
• Statistics on the total balance sheet for financial corporations also published on a quarterly basis, comprising a summary of the balance sheet of financial corporations and their sector breakdown.

Data availability
Statistical information on insurance corporations is available from 2016 Q2, while pension fund statistics are accessible from 2019 Q3.
The total balance sheet of financial corporations and its sector breakdown is available from 2019 Q3, coinciding with the start date of the pension fund statistics.

Discontinued time series
The time series that are discontinued as a result of the release of these statistics will soon be moved to the «Historical statistics for researchers» section.
