Today, a new experimental statistic has been published based on card payments abroad related to cross-border trips by tourists residents in Spain, with great detail by type of merchant and country.

This statistic is elaborated from the information declared by card issuers (Payment Service Providers) to the Bank of Spain, following Regulation EU 2020/2011 of the European Central Bank on payment statistics.
The period initially published is 2022Q1-2024Q2 and the data will be updated approximately two months after the end of the reference quarter.
