With the publication of the Financial Accounts of the Spanish Economy for the second quarter of 2026, the usual annual revision carried out each October has been completed. This revision affects the data for the previous quarter and the preceding three years (this year, from March 2023 to March 2026).
In addition, the following changes have been introduced:
- A revision has been carried out to correct errors identified in the outstanding amounts of other equity issued by insurance corporations and held by households and non-financial corporations since the first quarter of 2020. The correction results in an increase ranging from €6 billion to €8 billion, depending on the period, with approximately 65% attributable to household holdings and 35% to holdings of non-financial corporations. As a consequence of updating the financial accounts to incorporate these corrections, minor adjustments may also have occurred in other related data for the period concerned.
- A reclassification has been implemented for data relating to salary and pension advances granted by credit institutions to households. These amounts, previously recorded under the instrument “Loans to Households”, are now included under “Other Accounts Receivable/Payable”. This change reflects the adoption of a new source of information used in the compilation of the financial accounts, namely the reports submitted by credit institutions under Circular 1/2025, which became effective for reference data from April 2026 onwards. As a result, a break in the corresponding outstanding stock series is observed in the second quarter of 2026. This break has been recorded as other changes in volume in the second quarter of 2026, as it represents a change in stocks that cannot be explained by either transactions or revaluations.
