Experimental statistics on Distributional Wealth Accounts (DWA) for the household sector. Publication of Results for Spain on the Banco de España’s website

Experimental Statistics

The Banco de España has started to produce and disseminate on its website (linkOpens in new window) experimental data from the Distributional Wealth Accounts (DWA) statistics on households resident in Spain, using data up to the second quarter of 2025. This information will be updated quarterly, with an approximate lag of five months from the reference quarter. In addition to the data, interactive charts are included to facilitate visualisation of the main results.

The DWA provide insight into the distribution of net wealth and its components across various household groups on a quarterly basis, complementing the aggregate statistics of the national accounts (non-financial assets and financial accounts) thanks to the distributional information provided by the microdata from the Spanish Survey of Household Finances (EFF, by its Spanish initials), which feeds into the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS), the harmonised European survey. As previously stated in this announcements section (linkOpens in new window), these statistics have been published since January 8, 2024 by the European Central Bank (ECB), which developed them in collaboration with the rest of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

The Banco de España follows the methodology applied so far by the ECB, developed by the Expert Group on Distributional Financial Accounts within the ESCB framework. Thus, the new observations will be fully consistent with those published to date.

In parallel, the ECB will continue to publish on its websiteOpens in new window the results for all euro area countries (including Spain), except Croatia.
