The Governing Council’s trajectory since 1980

Under Law 30/1980 of 21 June 1980Opens in new window , the governing bodies of the Banco de España were the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the General Council (comprising the Governor, the Deputy Governor, six members appointed by the Government, the Director General of Financial Policy, the Director General of the Treasury, four directors general of the Banco de España and the Representative of the Personnel) and the Executive Council (composed of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, three members from the Government appointees and one director general of the Banco de España). The meetings of both the General Council and the Executive Council were attended, in a non-voting capacity, by the General Secretary of the Banco de España (who acted as Council secretary) and by the other directors general who were not members.

Governing bodies (since 1994)

Following approval of Law 13/1994 of 1 June 1994Opens in new window , the governing bodies became the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Governing Council (comprising the Governor, the Deputy Governor, six members appointed by the Government, the General Secretary of the Treasury and the Vice-Chair of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), with the Representative of the Personnel attending in a non-voting capacity) and the Executive Commission (composed of the Governor, the Deputy Governor and two members appointed by the Governing Council). The meetings of both the Governing Council and the Executive Commission are attended, in a non-voting capacity, by the General Secretary of the Banco de España (who acts as secretary) and by the directors general.
