The Banco de España Library

The Banco de España Library, which specialises in economics, contains over 365,000 printed volumes; it also has a Special Value Collection, comprising more than 17,000 items from the 15th-19th centuries.

Banco de España Collection

The Banco de España Collection, comprising some 3,500 works of art, has been built up over more than two hundred years.

In 2019 the Bank launched a programme to disseminate its Collection to ensure all sectors of society can enjoy and learn about its heritage, through temporary exhibitions, specific loans to national and international exhibitions and sundry publications.

The Banco de España’s Historical Archive

The Banco de España’s Historical Archive houses documents, banknotes, photographs, blueprints and drawings dating from 1782 to the present day. One of the best-preserved bank archives in the world, if laid end to end it would stretch 15 kilometres. It contains a collection of gold coins dating back to the 4th century BCE, including a set of ounces and divisor coins from the 16th-19th centuries. The Historical Archive has been open for consultation and research purposes since 1982.

Guided tours

Between October and June, the Banco de España provides free, guided tours of its Madrid headquarters and its branch offices.

Tours of the Madrid headquarters are focused on our heritage, while those provided at the branch offices have a more educational purpose. Both can be arranged through the section provided on the Bank’s websiteOpens in new window.
