EPU Spain

We construct indicators of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) for Spain. The construction of the index follows closely the procedure in "Measuring Economic Policy Uncertainty" by Scott R. Baker, Nicholas Bloom and Steven J. Davis.

  • The EPU index based on local press relies on newspaper coverage frequency of seven relevant Spanish national newspapers (El Pais, El Mundo, Expansión, ABC, Cinco Dias, El Economista, La Vanguardia). Our index based on local press is described in our paper "A new economic policy index for Spain". For more information on the index, visit the dedicated page in the Policy Uncertainty website.
  • The EPU index based on foreign press relies on the following newspapers: Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, The Telegraph U.K., The Times U.K., Chicago Tribune, The Guardian U.K., The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Economist.

The EPU index based on all available press pools together the Spanish press and the Anglophone press.

Our indexes based on foreign press and all available press are described in Andres-Escayola et al. (2022).
