Global Money Week

The Banco de España actively participates in Global Money Week, an initiative organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)Opens in new window

Held annually, Global Money Week is a worldwide initiative that promotes financial education from an early age.

It has been held since 2015 and usually takes place during the third week of March.

Global Money Week is an initiative coordinated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The national coordinators are the Banco de España, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business.

2026 “Smart money talks”

Global Money Week 2026 will take place from March 16 to 22.

We already have a slogan! The chosen slogan for the 2026 edition is “Smart money talks”. Young people’s financial lives are full of decisions: managing their first paycheck, keeping track of expenses, staying alert to possible scams… However, for some, talking about money can be a taboo subject.

The Banco de España is once again taking part in this global initiative with one goal: to promote dialogue about personal finances in order to encourage healthy habits, avoid pitfalls, and lay the foundations for financial well-being.

Past editions

2025 “Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow”

The 2025 Global Money Week was held from 17-23 March.

The theme for the 2025 edition was “Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow”. The rise of so-called “finfluencers” – often pseudo-experts who promise quick financial gains in return for some kind of payment – may pose a risk, especially to young people.

Accordingly, during Global Money Week 2025 the Banco de España, the CNMV and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business focused their initiatives on behavioural biases, online marketing techniques and social trading.

Global Money Week 2024 was held from 18-24 March.

With the theme “Protect your money, secure your future”, Global Money Week 2024 concentrated on safe management of personal finances and protection against fraud.

In Spain, the Banco de España, the CNMV and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business, as coordinators of the Financial Education Plan and in collaboration with their network of partners, organised cultural events, talks and training activities focused on issues such as phishing and digital transaction scams.

The 2023 Global Money Week was held from 20-26 March.

The 2023 theme, “Plan your money, plant your future”, was inspired by the importance of saving, budgeting, evaluating whether to borrow and planning investments.

The Banco de España, the CNMV and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, along with several partners of the Financial Education Plan, carried out numerous educational and awareness-raising campaigns to highlight the importance of financial planning from a young age for a more secure future.
