Generation €uro Students’ Award

The Generation €uro Students’ Award seeks to shed light on the workings of Eurosystem monetary policy and its role in ensuring price stability.

It is an annual competition for upper secondary and intermediate vocational training students. It was first held during the 2011-12 academic year, launched by the European Central Bank (ECB) and eleven euro area national central banks.

Since then, the Banco de España has taken charge of organising the contest in Spain.

15th edition (2025-2026)

To participate in the 15th edition of the Generación €uro Students’ Award, all you need is a team of three to five upper secondary or intermediate vocational training students, a teacher, and a strong desire to learn.

Please note that the educational institution must obtain written consent from each team member — or from their parents or legal guardians, if applicable — for participation in the competition.

    These authorizations must be retained by the educational institution and made available to the Banco de España upon request.

    Second phase: analytical proposal

    The 71 teams classified File PDF: Opens in new window (165 KB) for the second phase must prepare an analytical proposal on the monetary policy decision that they believe the Governing Council of the European Central Bank should take at its meeting on February 5, 2026.

    The deadline to submit the analytical proposal is February 4 at 12:00 p.m. (CET).

    How does Generation €uro Students’ Award work?

    Generación €uro is a competition about monetary policy that consists of three phases.

    • October 2025: First phase
      Completion of a multiple-choice test.
      The test was held on October 29.

    • February 2026: Second phase
      Preparation of a first analytical proposal on monetary policy.
      The proposal must be submitted by email before 12:00 p.m. (CET) on February 4, 2026.
      A panel of experts will select the three finalists.
    • March 2026: Final phase
      Preparation and defense of a second analytical proposal on monetary policy.
      The proposal and presentation must be submitted by email before 12:00 p.m. (CET) on March 18, 2026.
      The presentation and defense will take place at the Banco de España headquarters in Madrid.
      The date of the presentation and defense will be communicated well in advance.
      A panel of experts will choose the winner, as well as the first and second runners-up.
