School Financial Education Competition

The School Financial Education Competition is an initiative under the Financial Education PlanOpens in new window, that the Banco de España coordinates.

The School Financial Education Competition seeks to cultivate financial culture among young people in Spain.

It is held yearly for secondary education and intermediate vocational training students. To compete schools need to sign up to the School Financial Education Programme, which provides free teaching material to teachers of any subject and year who want to cover basic financial literacy in their classrooms.

The School Financial Education Competition is an initiative coordinated by the Banco de España, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business as coordinators of the Financial Education Plan.

Rounds of the competition

The competition involves a series of multiple-choice questions on economic and financial topics. There are three rounds:

  • The online round in which all schools signed up to the School Financial Education Programme can participate.
  • The semifinals day, where the teams that overcome the online round face off against each other.
  • The Grand Final, where the two finalists go head-to-head in Financial Education Day’s main event.

Prizes

The prizes have changed over the years.

The winners and runners-up usually receive a certificate, a cash prize and a gift. In addition, the schools that reach the Grand Final receive a trophy and money for school supplies.
