11th Latin American Meeting with the Markets: Outlooks for Latin America's Developing Markets

26 October 2005
Madrid

Information

On 26 October, at the Bank of Spain, a high-level international conference took place, organised jointly with the World Bank.

This day-long meeting brought together leading representatives from the public and private sectors and from the academic world, from several countries, to share their opinions on issues related to the situation and outlook for Latin America within the international economic and financial context.

The event was an integral part of a series of conferences launched by the World Bank in 2000. It was the first to be held in Europe, which clearly helped enrich discussions by providing the European point of view to the debate.

The specific topics covered were: international economic and financial outlooks; the challenges faced due to the reduction of financial vulnerabilities in the developing markets; and the current trends and key factors for the ability to attract Foreign Direct Investment by the three main regions that compete for it: Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe. The experts expressed their opinions during an open discussion with those in attendance.

The conference was inaugurated by Bank of Spain Governor Jaime Caruana, Spanish Secretary of State for the Economy David Vegara and World Bank Vice President  Pamela Cox. Likewise, a significant number of major players from the field of international economics and finance also participated.
