DLT & Digital Currencies

Valladolid, 04 Junio 2024

Banco de España will host in its Valladolid branch the 4th of June 2024 a by-invitation-only event to discuss the potential usage of distributed ledger technologies (DLT) in the implementation and distribution of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC).

The event will take place in the context of the Plenary Meeting that the ISO Technical Committee (TC) 307 on Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies standards will celebrate in Valladolid from 3rd to 7th of June 2024, hosted by UNE and Valladolid’s City Hall, with the sponsorship of INATBA, the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications.

UNE is the Spanish Technical Standards Association and is the official representative of Spain in the International Standards Association, ISO, and other international standards setting bodies.

Several ISO technical standards are essential for the interoperability of the financial system, like the ISO 3166 on country codes; the ISO 4217 on currency codes, or the ISO 20022 series of standards on financial communications developed by ISO TC 68 on Financial Services. A Joint Working Group has been established between ISO TC 307 and ISO TC 68 to elaborate technical standards related to DLT and digital currencies, including CBDC, and their face-to-face meeting in Valladolid will be focused on a common vocabulary for the digital currencies use case of DLT.

INATBA creation was promoted by the European Commission and currently plays a significant role in shaping discussions at high-level events related to blockchain technology and its applications. INATBA's engagement in this event highlights its commitment to advancing the understanding and use of blockchain technologies in new financial realms such as CBDC's.
