Directorate General Operations, Markets and Payment Systems
The Directorate General Operations, Markets and Payment Systems has the following functions:

Implementing monetary and exchange rate policies of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

Managing its own foreign reserves and those of the European Central Bank (ECB).

Providing government debt financial services while acting as the governing body of the government debt book entry market.

Providing payment services and other banking operations in euros and foreign currency in the Banco de España's role as the bank of banks and banker of the State.

Promoting and controlling the smooth operation of the interbank payment clearing systems, the supervision of retail payment systems and the management of the large-value payment systems organised by the Banco de España as a member of the ESCB.

Managing the issue and circulation of banknotes and coins and all related operations.
