The Next Generation EU (NGEU) programme was approved by the European Council in July 2020 to stimulate recovery in Europe from the economic and social consequences of COVID-19. It consists of a package of funds with an envelope of €750 billion to be distributed among the Member States conditional upon the submission of and compliance with so-called National Recovery and Resilience Plans.
Spain began receiving NGEU funds in 2021.
In March 2022, coinciding with the dissemination of Balance of Payments (BoP) and International Investment Position (IIP) data for the fourth quarter of 2021, a note has been published explaining how the NGEU-related transactions are recorded in the external statistics. This note may be consulted at the following link.
