The “Get to know the Banco de España” workshops, aimed at secondary school, Baccalaureate, and intermediate vocational training students, offer an overview of the evolution of our institution and its functions, from its origins to its current role as a modern and independent central bank.
Format
The “Get to know the Banco de España” workshops are dynamic and encourage student participation.
Alongside the presentation of theoretical concepts, the workshops include gamified activities (1). Additionally, all attendees will have access to supplementary resources to explore topics of particular interest in greater depth.
Contents
The “Get to know the Banco de España” workshops cover (1), among other topics:
- A brief journey through the Bank’s history: from our predecessor, the Banco Nacional de San Carlos, to the current Banco de España.
- The process of European integration and the role of the Banco de España as a member of the Eurosystem and the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
- The main functions of the Banco de España, with special focus on:
- Its role in defining and implementing monetary policy and its essential contribution to maintaining price stability.
- The supervision of the solvency and regulatory compliance of financial institutions and markets to ensure financial stability.
- The promotion of the smooth functioning of payment systems in the euro area.
- The issuance of banknotes and the introduction into circulation of banknotes and coins, and their protection against counterfeiting.

The application period for the 2025–2026 edition of the “Get to know the Banco de España” workshops will open during the first half of September 2025.

Practical information
- The workshops “Get to know the Banco de España” are free and require prior registration. The school year session calendar opens in September each year.
- This activity is not recommended for individuals under 14 years of age.
- Workshops are held in person at the Banco de España locations.
- The number of participants may vary depending on the location.
- Duration ranges from 1 to 2 hours depending on the location (1).
- For a safe and organized visit, please remember:
- All attendees must show ID or passport and pass security checks to enter the building.
- It is mandatory to wear the access badge provided by the Banco de España security staff visibly at all times.
- Groups must always be accompanied by the Banco de España staff. It is not permitted to separate from the group.
- Taking photos or videos inside the building is not allowed.
- In case of emergency or evacuation, follow the instructions of the Banco de España security staff.
