Exchanging peseta coins for euros

The Banco de España only exchanges peseta coins that were in circulation when the euro was launched on 1 January 2002. These coins may be exchanged at the Banco de España up until 31 December 2020 for the euro equivalent of their face value (i.e. the value shown on the coin), calculated at the irrevocable euro exchange rate (€1=166.386 pesetas).

Consult the Banco de España website for details of the coins that are accepted:

Some peseta coins may be worth more than their face value as collectibles on the numismatic market on account of their age, rarity, scarcity or minting defects. However, the Banco de España only exchanges coins at their face value, not taking their possible value to collectors into account. No coins other than those listed on the page linked above are accepted.
