Departments involved in research

The following administrative units at the Banco de España contribute to its research functions:

  • Directorate General - Economics, Statistics, and Research (DG del Servicio de Estudios)
    DG Economics, Statistics and Research is the main research branch of the Banco de España. Its research agenda is geared primarily to understanding the workings of the Spanish economy in its European and institutional context; to the analysis of macroeconomic, monetary policy, and financial stability issues; and to the development of econometric and statistical tools.
    • Dept. of Monetary and Financial Studies (Dpto. de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros)
      The Dept. of Monetary and Financial Studies performs macroeconomic, microeconomic, and econometric research relevant for Spanish economic policy making. Topics of particular emphasis include monetary policy in a European context; interest rates, financial markets, and household finances; productivity, competitiveness, and the current account balance; and labor markets and demographics.
    • Dept. of Statistics (Dpto. de Estadística)
      Data compiled and published by the Dept. of Statistics includes financial and balance-of-payments accounts for the Spanish economy, and balance sheet data on Spanish non-financial firms.
    • Dept. of Economic Analysis and Forecasting (Dpto. de Coyuntura y Previsión Económica)
      The Dept. of Economic Analysis and Forecasting produces macroeconomic forecasts for the Spanish and European economies, and performs applied research on economic policy in the Spanish context.
  • Directorate General - Banking Regulation (DG de Regulación)
    • Dept. of Financial Stability (Dpto. de Estabilidad Financiera)
      The Department of Financial Stability has recently focused on three main research lines: i) prudential regulation of credit cycles, ii) the role of asymmetric information and signalling in the analysis of credit markets, and iii) interest rate competition among Spanish banks.
    • Dept. of Financial Institutions (Dpto. de Instituciones Financieras)
  • Associate Directorate General - International Affairs (DGA de Asuntos Internacionales)
    The Associate Directorate General - International Affairs focuses its research on policy-relevant economic and financial questions of particular interest for Spain as a global player. Vulnerability, financial stability, and integration issues rank high in its research agenda. The main areas of analysis are global issues, emerging markets, and financial architecture.
