Bde.es website accessibility policy

The Banco de España is committed to making its corporate website accessible to all members of the public, including those with any form of disability, independently of the browsing context, in compliance with the contents of the Information Society and Electronic Commerce Services Act PDF file: Link in a new window (103 KB). For this reason, we are carrying out a thorough overhaul of all the pages of our website, www.bde.es, in order to make access to its content as universal as possible.

The new design of www.bde.es achieves a AA ("double A") accessibility level, according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 Link in a new window established by the W3C Link in a new window. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international association made up of different organisations, people and the public in general that is working to develop standards with the objective of promoting and disseminating best practice in web development.

This website aims to be equally accessible for everybody, however, if you do have a difficulty or want to make a comment or suggestion please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail at webmaster@bde.es.

The main improvements implemented

  • The font sizes are now relative, which means that the user can increase or decrease text size according to their visual needs.
  • The images and tables in the pages include a short description of the information they contain. As a result users of screen readers or text only browsers can easily understand the meaning of an image or text, and can quickly evaluate whether the information will be of interest to them, thanks to the summary.
  • The main language of each page, has been identified, in addition to any change in the natural language of the text. This will facilitate the treatment and understanding of the text by users with screen readers or voice synthesisers.
  • The pages now have a more logical internal structure, which results in quicker access to information for users who use screen readers or browsers such as Opera.
  • The XHTML code and CSS used are consistent with the formal syntax approved by the W3C Link in a new window in order to ensure that they are displayed correctly by different browsers and platforms.
  • The information has been separated from its graphic presentation so that users who wish to can browse the content more quickly, if they have deactivated the downloading of style sheets in their browser.
