The Banco de España Historical Archive has an extensive collection of documents related to the activities it has undertaken since it was founded as the Banco Nacional de San Carlos.
It was officially opened for researchers in 1982 and it offers a reading room with a seating capacity for 2 people.
It is located in the Banco de España building in Alcalá 48, in Madrid.
There is a wide variety of documents held in safekeeping, which bear witness to aspects of Banco de España activities and our economic and financial history.

Researchers shall have access to documents that are over 40 years old. There may be certain documentation of a nature that requires the presentation of additional supporting documents, specific justification or prior authorisation, in order for access to be granted.
