The Banco de España uses electronic certificates to identify its users for online services requiring a high level of security. It also uses electronic signatures for data exchanges when the information transmitted requires them.
Users of some of the online services provided by the Banco de España may therefore need to possess an electronic certificate to be identified by the system.
The Bank accepts electronic certificates issued by certain certification service providers and it also has the capacity to issue certificates for other institutions in specific cases.
In order to issue and manage its own electronic certificates, it has implemented a new public key structure (known as PKIBDE ). The certificates issued by PKIBDE allow the holder to access the Banco de España's online services.
