  • Does the Banco de España provide statistical information on lending, in particular mortgage lending, by financial institutions?

    The Banco de España disseminates statistical information on lending by financial institutions in its Statistical Bulletin, which is available on its website.

    In Chapter 8 of the Bulletin, Table 8.26 contains data on lending to other resident sectors by sub-sector File PDF: Opens in a new window. It also contains information on lending to households for house purchase.

    In addition, Chapter 4 of the Statistical Bulletin, , provides information on lending by all institutions, in Table 4.3, as well as a breakdown of lending by deposit-taking institutions (including banks, savings banks and credit unions) in Table 4.53 File PDF: Opens in a new window.

    These tables also contain information about mortgage-backed lending (whether or not intended for house purchase) and about doubtful loans.

    They also provide information about lending for house purchase (whether or not mortgage-backed) in Table 4.13.

  • What statistical information does the Banco de España provide regarding the financial sector as a whole?

    The Banco de España disseminates aggregate data on the balance sheet and income-statement structure of credit institutions, as well as detailed deposit and credit information (by sector, purpose, autonomous region and province), in Chapter 8Opens in a new window and Chapter 4 of its Statistical Bulletin. The Bulletin also includes information about the number of institutions and offices and their total headcount.

  • Is it possible to obtain information about the financial wealth of households? What about the debt ratio of general government?

    Quarterly data on "household wealth" is available in the Banco de España Statistical Bulletin. A Financial Balance Sheet with the assets and liabilities of households can be found in Table 3.9 File PDF: Opens in a new window of Chapter 3, under “Financial Accounts”

    Table 3.10 File PDF: Opens in a new window contains the data for net financial transactions, from which the net financial saving for a certain period can be determined.

    Information about the debt ratio of general government is published in chapters 11 to 14 of the Statistical Bulletin, General Government. These contain data about the debt ratio of:

  • Where can I consult economic data for Spain, such as trends in GDP (constant prices); GDP per capita (constant prices); industrial output (constant prices); budget deficit; debt-to-GDP ratio; export trends; import trends; trade balance, etc.?

    Spanish economic data are published in the Statistics section, in the Statistical Bulletin, under Economic Indicators and in the Quarterly Financial Accounts. The Statistical Bulletin and the Financial Accounts also include a procedure for downloading the time series.

  • Does the Banco de España provide time series for the data disseminated in the Statistical Bulletin and in the Financial Accounts, in a computerized format?

    Yes, the Statistical Bulletin and the Financial Accounts of the Spanish EconomyOpens in a new window provide a procedure whereby time series can be downloaded as CSV files.

    These files can be downloaded by clicking on the icon (ZIP file: Open in new window), which is located on the right-hand side, beneath the corresponding title in the table of contents.
