This book containspapers and proceedings from the Conference organised on 8-9 June 2006 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the adoption of the name Banco de España by the Spanish Central Bank.

The central theme of the conference was to analyse the challenges faced by central banks from various aspects: monetary policy, payment systems, globalisation and financial stability.
